KUCHING, Dec 31: The RM248 million Bebuling Short Take-Off and Landing port (STOLport) project is moving steadily toward its February 2026 completion, with the facility anticipated to transform the Betong Division into a more accessible economic and tourism hub.
According to a press release from the Office of the Deputy Premier Sarawak, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the airport is a strategic component in Sarawak’s mission to modernise rural trade and connectivity.
During his site visit yesterday, (Dec 30), he noted that the facility will function as a vital link for the local agricultural sector, specifically by working in tandem with the established Collecting Packaging Processing Centre (CPPC) and the nearby Agropark.
“The airport will serve two purposes. One, is to transport passengers and the other is to transport cargo out to the market beyond of Spaoh,” said Uggah, who is also Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD).
Uggah, who also the Second Minister for Finance and New Economy, received a comprehensive technical briefing from the Ministry of Works (JKR) Sarawak Divisional Engineer, Jason Ng about several high-priority connectivity projects
The connectivity projects include the Sungai Krian Bridge (Coastal Package D4), the Highway to Roban Interchange (Coastal Package A5), and the Batang Saribas Bridge 2 (Coastal Package A4).
Further updates were also shared regarding the progress of the Sungai Paku Bridge and several rural road upgrades, including Jalan Jambu Krampak to Rantau Layang and the Jalan Ijok-Batu Pesok-Rantau Layang stretch.
Also present were Betong Member of Parliament, Datuk Dr Richard Rapu, JKR Sarawak Director, Datu Ir Cassidy Morris, Political Secretary to the Sarawak Premier, Roseline Mapong, Betong District Officer, Laga Kueh, Betong District Council Secretary, Lister Guwie, and Betong Development Agency Special Officer, Abang Mohamed. – DayakDaily
