KUCHING, Oct 20: Upgrade works for the Durin–Salim road section under the Redline Project will be expedited to enhance road safety in the high-risk accident area between Durin and Sibu Jaya.

According to Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi, RM231 million has been approved by the federal government for the project, which is expected to be carried out in phases beginning next year.

He elaborated that the upgrading of the 40.27-kilometre stretch is part of the government’s commitment to strengthen Sarawak’s road network to make it safer, more comfortable, and more sustainable.

“This project will be carried out in stages based on priority to ensure each section can be upgraded more efficiently and deliver high impact to the people of Sarawak,” he said during a press conference after inspecting the progress of the Redline Project at the Durin–Salim Section in Sibu on Sunday (Oct 19), as reported by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).

On the Redline Project, Nanta, who is Kapit MP, said it covers a total length of 136.74 kilometres and is divided into two main categories—short stretches and long stretches.

“The implementation of the Redline Project will not only improve the safety and comfort of road users but also strengthen connectivity between urban, rural, and interior areas in Sarawak,” he said.

At the same time, he stressed that his ministry, together with the Sarawak Public Works Department (JKR), remains committed to strengthening the state’s infrastructure through a holistic approach.

This approach, he added, aligns with the aspirations of the MADANI government, which emphasises inclusive development to ensure that the benefits of progress are enjoyed by all Malaysians. — DayakDaily
