RM2.3 million worth of frozen food seized in Bintulu

KUCHING, March 8: The Sarawak General Operations Force (GOF) seized frozen food worth over RM2.3 million and arrested a 28-year-old man in a raid operation known as ‘Op Taring Chiller’.

According to a news report by TVS, the raid was conducted by the Intelligence Branch Team of the 12th Battalion of the Miri GOF in collaboration with the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department, Bintulu Branch.

The raid was conducted at a premises in Bintulu, believed to be used for storing frozen food products without a valid permit.

Sarawak GOF Brigade commander Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said a 28-year-old local man was also arrested during the raid.

“A total of 27,131.80 kilogrammes of various types of frozen food products were seized. Two containers and seven various types of vehicles were also seized in this operation.

“Based on the estimated market price, the total value of the seizure is estimated at RM2,326,524.”

“All the arrests and seizures were handed over to the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department Bintulu Branch for further action under Section 9(1)(3) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999,” he said in a statement.

Since its launch on January 1 until March 7, 2025, Op Taring by the Sarawak GOF has recorded significant success with total seizures amounting to RM161 million.

A total of 66 cases were recorded involving 165 arrests, consisting of 120 locals and 45 foreigners, as well as the seizure of 81 vehicles. – DayakDaily
