KUCHING, Dec 29: A RM195,000 grant from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) will be channelled towards development and improvement works at St David Chapel in Kampung Bumbok, aimed at enhancing worship facilities and supporting activities for the local congregation and surrounding community.

The grant was presented by Batu Kitang assemblyman Dato Ir Lo Khere Chiang during a cheque handover ceremony held in conjunction with a Christmas gathering at the community hall here on Sunday (Dec 28).

According to Lo, the allocation would enable the chapel to carry out necessary upgrades to improve comfort and functionality, while strengthening its role as a centre for religious and community activities.

“This grant is meant to support the development of the chapel so that it can better serve its congregation and continue to be a place for worship and community engagement,” he said.

He added that the assistance reflected the Sarawak government’s continued commitment, through Unifor, to supporting non-Muslim houses of worship and ensuring that all religious communities in the State receive fair and inclusive support.

“The State government remains committed to fostering unity and mutual respect among all faiths, and this is reflected in our continuous assistance to religious institutions across Sarawak,” he said.

Meanwhile, members of St David Chapel expressed their appreciation for the contribution, describing it as timely and meaningful, particularly as it was presented during the Christmas season.

The cheque presentation further underscored Sarawak’s long-standing spirit of unity, inclusiveness and mutual respect, which continues to underpin the State’s multicultural and multi-religious harmony. — DayakDaily
