KUCHING, March 13: The federal government has approved RM154 million to repair a barrage in Sarawak after erosion was detected both upstream and downstream.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof said the issue was highlighted during a briefing on Sarawak’s water projects and flood mitigation plans earlier today.
“One key point we raised was the integrity of the barrage due to erosion upstream and downstream,” he told reporters after the Madani breaking-of-fast event held at Masjid Jamek Kuching this evening.
He was responding to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s announcement on the allocation for the immediate repair of the damaged barrage.
“As Petra Jaya MP, and on behalf of the Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) and the residents of Kuching, I thank the government for approving this allocation,” Fadillah stated.
He added that the Sarawak government’s technical studies must be submitted promptly for review by the Ministry of Economy and the Cabinet to ensure smooth implementation.
Also present during the event was Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. — DayakDaily
