SIBU, April 21: Applications are open for those interested in participating in the Kumang Gawai Dayak Sibu 2024 Competition scheduled to take place on May 25 at Kingwood Hotel here.
Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Sarakup chairman Angelyn Uchi Maseng said that among the criteria applicants should meet, they should be single Dayak women between the ages of 18 and 30 and must stand at least 5 feet and 2 inches tall.
“A total of RM14,600 in prize money is being offered for this competition, which is the highlight of the pre-Gawai Dayak celebration dinner at the Sibu Division level,” she said today.
The dinner is jointly organised by the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Sibu, SIDS Sibu, Orang Ulu National Association (OUNA) Sibu, and Dayak Bidayuh National Association (DBNA) Sibu.
Uchi said the winner will take home RM4,000 along with a crown, sash, trophy, hamper, and participation certificate, while the Lulong (runner-up) will receive RM3,000 along with a sash, trophy, hamper, and participation certificate.
“Selinggar Matahari (third place) will win RM2,000 along with a sash, trophy, hamper, and certificate of participation.
“Those who place fourth to tenth will each receive RM800 and a participation certificate as consolation prizes,” she said.
She informed that a non-refundable participation fee of RM50 will be charged for each participant with the closing date set at 5pm on May 15.
