KUCHING, March 18: The RM140.79 million Federal Government Integrated Complex (BGP) in Kuching, designed with an exterior inspired by the wings of the Burung Kenyalang and set to house 25 federal agencies, is progressing ahead of schedule, with early completion possible before November 2028.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said that the project is currently 132 days ahead of its original timeline.

“The project is now more than four months ahead of schedule. We hope the momentum continues so the project can be completed as early as possible,” he told a press conference following a site visit to review construction progress of the project located in Petra Jaya today.

Situated on a 10-acre site in Petra Jaya, the complex is being developed using the Design and Build method by Eastbourne Corporation Berhad, with the Public Works Department (JKR) Malaysia acting as the implementing agency through Special Project Team 2.

Approved under Rolling Plan 4 of the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), the BGP will centralise 25 federal agencies that are currently operating from rented premises and scattered buildings across Kuching.

Once completed, the complex will comprise a main office building, shared facilities, commercial spaces, a surau, a multipurpose hall, a guardhouse, utility buildings, parking areas, and covered walkways.

The aim is to make government services more accessible by bringing multiple agencies under one roof.

Construction has already recorded over 17 per cent physical progress, surpassing the original schedule. The Ministry of Works affirmed that close monitoring will continue to ensure the project is completed within the contractual period set for Nov 28, 2028.

“This integrated building will enable the public to access services from all 25 agencies in a single location, rather than visiting multiple offices,” Ahmad added.

He also highlighted the adoption of Building Information Modelling (BIM) by the contractor, even though it was not initially required, as a measure to reduce costs, prevent design errors, and avoid clashes. The project is also employing the Industrialised Building System (IBS) and Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC) technologies.

“We are confident that, under the supervision of the special project team from JKR headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, acting as the Superintendent Officer (SO) and supported by the Superintending Officer’s Project Team (SOPT), the project will be successfully completed,” Ahmad concluded. — DayakDaily
