SIMUNJAN, Sept 9: The long-standing issue of low water pressure in Simunjan is set to be resolved with the RM13.9 million high-level tank construction project in Kampung Hijrah, featuring a three-million-litre reinforced concrete tank and expected to be completed by August 2027.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news report, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris said the project reflects the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to providing top-quality basic infrastructure for rural communities.
“This project will enable residents to enjoy a more reliable, stable, and higher-quality clean water supply, while reducing complaints related to water disruptions,” he said during the project site handover ceremony in Kampung Hijrah today.
Awla also urged contractors to adhere strictly to project specifications and timelines, noting that early completion would allow the community to benefit sooner.
He further proposed building another high-level tank in the Sungai Apin Zone to address ongoing low water pressure in that area.
The project, managed by the Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) under the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunications (MUT), spans a 24-month contract period starting Aug 6, 2025.
JBALB Samarahan Division water engineer Ts Adzahari Baini said the project includes constructing a 25-metre-high concrete tower, a 4.5-metre-high concrete tank, 2.3 kilometres of piping, and installing mechanical and electrical equipment, including SCADA systems, lightning protection, and electromagnetic flow meters.
The official site handover from JBALB to the contractor was witnessed by Awla, Simunjan District Officer Sanuyah Mohamad, and acting secretary of the Simunjan District Council Sabeli Razak. — DayakDaily
