KUCHING, June 25: The Sarawak government has approved a RM13.7 million special grant to empower schools across the State to carry out impactful environmental education activities through the establishment of Kelab Pencinta Alam Sekitar (Kelab PALS), or Environmental Lovers Clubs

According to a TVS news report, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said the funding will enable schools to provide adequate facilities and resources to implement a wide range of sustainability programmes, including the purchase of activity equipment, learning materials, and the organisation of outdoor environmental initiatives.

“This is more than just funding for a club — it is an investment in shaping students’ environmental values, knowledge, and responsibility,” he said in a speech delivered by Deputy Minister for Urban Development, Land Administration, and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh during the opening of the Environmental Education Train-The-Trainers Workshop at a local hotel here today.

Awang Tengah noted that Kelab PALS will serve as a platform for students to take part in activities such as beach cleanups, tree planting, and climate awareness campaigns.

The initiative is part of the State government’s long-term plan to establish Kelab PALS in every primary and secondary school by 2030, contributing to Sarawak’s goal of becoming a low-carbon state by 2050. — DayakDaily
