KUCHING, April 1: The RM1,200 Special Financial Assistance (Bantuan Kewangan Khas, BKK) for Sarawakian students pursuing studies at public and private higher education institutions (IPTA and IPTS) will be disbursed in stages beginning March 31.
According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) and Yayasan Sarawak, the assistance will benefit eligible students currently enrolled in higher learning institutions, subject to verification requirements.
The notice stated that existing recipients must upload a valid study verification letter between March 31 and May 31, 2026, via the My Yayasan portal to qualify for subsequent payments.
Students are required to submit an official letter from their respective institutions confirming that they remain in “studying” or “active” status. The document must be dated on or after the issuance of the notice.
In addition, recipients must not be under deferment, have withdrawn from their studies, or fall under any inactive academic status.
To complete the process, students are required to log in to the My Yayasan portal at https://myys.yayasansarawak.org.my/ using their Sarawak Pass, navigate to the “Check Status” section, and upload the verification letter under the “Action” column.
Yayasan Sarawak will then review the submitted documents and notify students of their application status via email or through the portal, indicating whether the upload has been successfully processed.
The BKK initiative forms part of the Sarawak government’s ongoing efforts to ease the financial burden on students and support access to higher education.
In a post shared on DUN Nangka social media yesterday, Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee said the initiative is expected to benefit over 60,000 Sarawakian students across IPTA and IPTS.
He added that the Sarawak government allocates more than RM73 million annually for the assistance, which is open to all eligible Sarawakian students in both public and private institutions.
“This assistance will help ease the financial burden on students and their families,” he said. — DayakDaily
