SIBURAN, Nov 22: A total of RM11 million from the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) has been allocated over the past few years for church development in the Mambong constituency, underscoring the Sarawak government’s ongoing commitment to supporting the welfare of the Christian community.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Minister of Transport (Air and Road) and Mambong assemblyman Datuk Dr Jerip Susil revealed that the funding has facilitated multiple church projects across the constituency, including initiatives aimed at improving village infrastructure.
“In Braang Bidak Village alone, RM1.1 million has been approved for village development projects from 2021 to 2025.
“In 2025, RM400,000 has been approved for the construction of a new road leading to Sebarau Waterfall, one of the village’s key eco-tourism attractions,” he added during the 38th Anniversary Celebration of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at Siburan Community Hall on Friday (Nov 21).
As a mark of continued support, Dr Jerip also announced a RM30,000 grant under the 2026 Rural Small Projects (MRP) programme to the Saint Francis of Assisi Church Committee to assist with church management and community activities.
He commended the Braang Bidak community for their strong spirit of unity and cooperation, highlighting the contributions of church bureaus, the Ladies Guild, and local leaders in advancing both spiritual and social development.
The celebration was also attended by Padawan District Office administrative officer Julius Scott Sapong, St Ann Parish Rector Fr Don Don Ramerez, Council president Vincent Kinson, St Ann Parish Council chairman Judes Linggo, Saint Francis of Assisi Church chairman Christopher Lester, and Braang Bidak Village head Burn Ambel.
