KUCHING, Nov 4: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan handed over 81 cheques worth a total of RM11,613,571.80 as compensation for land to 61 recipients in relation to the Bako, Sejingkat, and Samarahan Coastal Road (Samarahan Sector) project, today.
Awang Tengah also presented 10 cheques worth RM2,562,434 as compensation for land to nine recipients affected by the SK (A) Ibnu Khaldun expansion project in Kota Samarahan.
Speaking during the ceremony, Awang Tengah, who is also Second Minister of Urban Development and Natural Resources and Minister of International Trade and Industry, Terminal Building and Entrepreneur Development Planning, said infrastructure projects undertaken by the government in the areas concerned is to benefit the public.
According to him, the road project implemented is not only to connect the area, but also to provide opportunity for land along the road to be developed.
“It would also facilitate the implementation of other facilities needed by the community such as water and electricity supply and many others,” he told reporters when met after the land compensation handover ceremony at Intan Sarawak Campus in Kota Samarahan, today.
Awang Tengah said land acquisition for Sarawak government projects was done in accordance with the State Land Code (Chapter 81), and Article 13 of the Federal Constitution with reasonable compensation.
“I would also like to thank everyone involved, especially the Land and Survey Department Sarawak, because without cooperation from everyone, all this would not be possible,” he added.
At the ceremony, Awang Tengah also presented land titles under Section 18 of the State Land Code to 100 recipients from Kampung Sindang (residential), while one individual received the Bumiputera Communal Reserve land title gazetted under Section 6 of the State Land Code for Kampung Mang.
Also present were Assistant Minister of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais, Muara Tuang assemblyman Dato Idris Buang, and Land and Survey Department director Datu Abdullah Julaihi. — DayakDaily
