BRUIT, April 8: The proposed RM10.5 million rehabilitation of drainage and irrigation infrastructure for the Tg. Sirik Scheme (Block C) on Pulau Bruit is among the key initiatives driving a range of development projects worth over RM11.6 million currently being planned and implemented in Kampung Bruit to benefit the local community.
In Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and Ukas) Datuk Abdullah Saidol explained that these planned and ongoing projects reflect the government’s continuous efforts to enhance the quality of life for citizens, particularly in island and rural communities.
According to the Semop assemblyman, the Tg. Sirik Scheme (Block C) project, a significant Projek Rakyat initiative, is currently awaiting approval.
“Additionally, a RM390,000 project to upgrade the roads in Kampung Sesco No. 2 is underway and expected to be completed soon,” he said during the 2026 Aidilfitri gathering for the N.42 Semop constituency and P.206 Tanjung Manis parliamentary constituency on Tuesday.
Abdullah also highlighted other ongoing initiatives, including repair work on the steel bridge at the village’s main entrance costing RM458,640, while a RM350,000 project to upgrade the main access road to Kampung Bruit has reached the site visit stage.
“All these projects are vital because the primary challenges in our area are accessibility and connectivity. Some villages are separated by rivers and require sturdy bridges and well-maintained roads for the convenience of residents,” he explained.
The Deputy Minister also took the opportunity to congratulate students who achieved academic excellence.
“I would like to commend the students who obtained five As or more. Those progressing to university are receiving RM1,200 assistance, while RM500 incentives are awarded to students with five As or more. These initiatives aim to motivate the younger generation in the Semop constituency to continue excelling in their studies,” he said.
Meanwhile, Tanjung Manis MP Dato Ir Yusuf Wahab expressed support for the ongoing development efforts, stressing his commitment to prioritising the needs of the people.
He described the projects as more than just infrastructure upgrades, noting their potential to stimulate economic growth, particularly in the fishing and food supply sectors of the island.
To conclude the event, schoolchildren were presented with duit raya as a token of appreciation, adding to the joy of the festivities.
With development projects totalling RM11,698,640, residents of Kampung Bruit now look forward to seeing these initiatives fully realised for the benefit of the entire community. — DayakDaily
