KUCHING, Feb 27: A total of RM1.81 million from the Sarawak government’s Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund was handed out to 98 recipients in the N.30 Balai Ringin constituency last Monday.
According to a statement, Balai Ringin assemblyman Datuk Snowdan Lawan personally handed over the MRP cheques at his service centre.
Of the total amount, RM940,000 was allocated to 68 recipients, including Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), village’s Women Bureaus, chapels, churches, clubs, and associations.
These funds are intended to support village activities such as gotong-royong, student cash incentives, formal functions, craft and cultural events, sports and recreation, and youth engagement programmes.
Another RM710,000, shared among 15 recipients, is earmarked for village infrastructure upgrades, repair works, and the construction of storage facilities to safeguard village assets.
Meanwhile, RM160,009 was distributed to 15 school Parent-Teacher Associations (PIBG) to fund annual school activities, including inter-school competitions, student visits, library books, and assistance for needy students.
Snowdan urged village headmen and committees to maintain transparency and hold regular meetings before accessing the funds, ensuring residents are aware that the allocations are properly utilised.
Amid the ongoing tuberculosis (TB) outbreak, he also reminded villagers to stay vigilant and health-conscious.
The handover ceremony was attended by Balai Ringin Sub-District SAO Mohd Adam Abdullah as well as village chieftains Penghulu Anthony Lama and Penghulu Jeli Lebat. — DayakDaily
