KUCHING, Aug 7: A total of RM1.578 million in education grants has been allocated so far this year, with a significant portion directed towards STEM and English language programmes in support of students, schools and teachers across Sarawak.
Minister of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn stated that this amount accounts for 45.11 per cent of the total RM3.5 million annual allocation for education programmes and activities, with aims to meet the needs of learners at all levels.
“This leaves a balance of RM1.92 million to be distributed over the next four months to support various educational projects. The Ministry will ensure fair distribution and impact across all categories,” he said in his speech text during a ceremony to hand over grant approval letters to receipients at LCDA Tower today.
The STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and English language programmes received RM600,000, while technical and vocational education and training (TVET) sector was allocated RM100,800, higher learning centres (RM72,000), high school programmes (RM67,800), and primary schools (RM56,980).
Sagah emphasised that a large portion of the funding has been directed towards STEM and English language programmes, reflecting the Ministry’s commitment to improving these key areas.
He advised the recipients to use the grant wisely and effectively to create a positive impact on students.
“It is also compulsory for recipients to submit a report after completing the programme to document its success and areas for improvement,” he added.
Sagah also highlighted that schools should consider pursuing intellectual property protection for projects involving innovation or scientific research. — DayakDaily
