KUCHING, Aug 28: The Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Sarawak Contingent Police arrested a 22-year-old local man and seized drugs valued at RM1.4 million during a raid at a terrace house in Tabuan Desa on Aug 22.
Acting on intelligence, the NCID raided the single-storey home at approximately 11.30pm, recovering large quantities of suspected MDMA (74.3 kg), ketamine (20.83 g), and Erimin 5 (11.04 g), along with drug storage and packaging equipment.
Authorities estimate the seized drugs could potentially harm 247,764 users.
Sarawak Deputy Commissioner of Police DCP Saifullizan Ishak said investigations revealed that the suspect became active in the syndicate in August this year, tasked with guarding the drug supply and packaging it into plastic packets for distribution in Kuching.
“He reportedly received RM1,000 in spending money from syndicate members for his role.
“A preliminary urine screening tested negative for drugs, and the suspect has no prior criminal record. He has been remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code for seven days (Aug 24 to 30) to assist with further investigations,” he said in a statement after holding a press conference today.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, with a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane if the death penalty is not imposed.
Saifullizan stressed that NCID is actively pursuing the remaining syndicate members to ensure the drug network is completely dismantled.
The police emphasized that possessing, distributing, or protecting drug activities is a serious offense, and urged the public to report any information through the NCID hotline at 012-208 7222.
Saifullizan praised the success as a result of continuous intelligence work and public cooperation, reaffirming the department’s commitment to combatting drugs and protecting future generations. — DayakDaily
