ASAJAYA, Nov 12: The Sarawak government has given compensation amounting to RM1,307,967.50 to 13 landowners for the expansion of the Islamic cemetery and development of a telecommunication tower in Kampung Sambir.

Asajaya incumbent Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the State government had to compensate the landowners first before proceeding with the land whitening and expansion of the cemetery.

“This is because we want to avoid the assumption that the government is stealing the peoples’ land without compensation,” he said during the cheque compensation presentation ceremony in Kampung Sambir, Asajaya today.

The cemetery expansion project was approved by the State Planning Unit (SPA) on Feb 22, 2021 involving 7.7136 hectares. Eleven plots of land worth RM1,299,663.50 were compensated for this purpose.

Meanwhile, the telecommunication tower would be built on two plots worth RM8,304 and 0.0415 hectares in size. The project has been approved by SPA on Oct 16, 2021.

Abdul Karim further took note that the existing roads in Asajaya are in a poor state but he said it was inevitable due to various ongoing development projects.

“I would like to urge road users to be careful for the time being. Once the development projects are completed, I will ensure that the roads will be repaired too,” he added. — DayakDaily
