KUCHING, Jan 2: Richard Lon, 50, today succeeded Datuk Dr Ngenang Jangu as the new director of Unit For Other Religions (Unifor).
Prior to his appointment, Richard was the deputy director of Unifor.
He has also served as the Special Administrative Officer to former Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang as well as in various Chief Minister’s Departments.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas witnessed the handing over of duties from Dr Ngenang, 65, to Richard at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here.
Uggah is also the minister in charge of Unifor which was set up in April 2017 to assist all non-Islamic religions in Sarawak.
The unit is the brainchild of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem and was continued and strongly supported by his successor Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Sarawak is the only state in the nation to have such a unit dedicated to helping the different houses of worship not only in their physical development but in securing building sites as well as new cemetery sites.
For this year, Abang Johari has allocated RM50 million to help Unifor, a testament of the Sarawak government’s inclusive policy.
The Sarawak government has not only been upholding religious freedom but taking a step further to make sure that all religions are growing through Unifor. — DayakDaily
