KANOWIT, June 20: Response to the application for Kenyalang Gold Cards (KGC) has been overwhelming, prompting the opening of more counters.
The registration of KGC is taking place at Sibu Indoor Stadium at the Digital Exhibition in conjunction with the 60th Anniversary of Sarawak Merdeka.
Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development I Dato Gerald Rentap Jabu said today that the number of senior citizens queuing up to register was beyond their expectation.
“We did not expect a good response from the public in Sibu where we recorded a total of 6,500 people coming to the exhibition.
“Fortunately we have a big venue here, but we will also take note of that to improve the counters involved in exhibitions at other venues,” he said when met after leading the Merdeka Sarawak Adventure Convoy at the waterfront here today.
He said this when asked about the long queue involving Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC) registration by senior citizens during the Digital Exhibition held at the Sibu Indoor Stadium last weekend.
Gerald, who is also Layar assemblyman, said they would consider getting personnel from the head office of the departments involved from Kuching to avoid long queues at the KGC counter and other services provided.
“KGC registration can be done online or by visiting the Welfare Department and District Office, but since the elderly do not use sophisticated phones, the government has opened a counter for offline registrations,” he stressed.
Earlier, his entourage was welcomed by Machan and Ngemah assemblymen Allan Siden Gramong and Ngemah Anyi Jana respectively. — DayakDaily
