LIMBANG, July 30: The volcanic mud crater known as “lumpur bebuak” in Kampung Meritam is believed to hold significant potential as a source of raw material for medical and beauty products.

In a news report by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), Malaysian Deputy Transport Minister and Limbang MP Datuk Hasbi Habibollah, highlighted that the mud from the bowels of the earth has potential and benefits for skin and overall health.

He noted that the mud is popular among locals for its therapeutic properties, with visitors frequently using it for relaxation and as a body mask, claiming it can alleviate skin ailments.

“I suggest that further research be done on the mud to explore its nutritional and beneficial properties. Who knows if they may contain good and nutritious properties that could be developed into a marketable natural resource for skincare and others.

“This development could potentially boost local income and attract investors,” he said when officiating at the closing ceremony of 2024 Bebuak Mud Festival on Sunday (July 28).

The ceremony was attended by Limbang Division Resident Unus Tambi, Limbang District Council Mayor Sufian Mohat, Limbang District Officer Sulaiman Engal, and other community leaders.
