KUCHING, June 5: The contribution of two months’ salary from the state’s representatives and political secretaries would help to ease the burden of the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, said Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Abdul Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, when contacted today, said he was glad that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg and the State government had undertaken the initative.

“This is the little way for the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) State government’s leaders to show their heartfelt solidarity with the Malaysian public in its effort to lessen the burden caused by the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Meanwhile, Tasik Biru assemblymen Dato Henry Harry Jinep also welcomed the decision made by the Chief Minister.

“We welcome the decision, and are ever willing and ready for the pay cut. This is to assist the needy especially during this trying time.
“We are committed to serve our people, our ‘rakyat’ and put Sarawak First,” said Harry.

On June 4, 2021, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg announced that Sarawak cabinet ministers, elected members of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN), and political secretaries will contribute two months’ worth of their salary and allowances starting on June, to the Sarawak State Disaster Fund.

The announcement was made following the State Government Council Meeting (MMKN), which was chaired by the Chief Minister.  — DayakDaily
