KUCHING, Oct 6: Parents who know their children are abusing drugs must report them to the relevant authority immediately.
In making the call, Tanjung Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu also appealed to everyone in the community to work closely with bodies such as the National Anti-Drug Agency, Kuching Drug Rehabilitation Committee, the police and the Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS) to fight the drug scourge.
“Drug prevention is better than giving medical care. If our children are already addicted to drugs, it is very difficult to be normal again without giving them the right direction and assistance,” she said when closing the `Jom Berambeh’ programme at Dewan Masyarakat Lundu here today.
At the same event, she also officiated at the `Peace and Drug-Free Area’ programme themed `Komuniti Berbakti Masyarakat Sejahtera’, which was organised by Pemadam Lundu District in collaboration with Kuching Drugs Rehabilitation Committee of Kuching District.
Jamilah hoped such programmes could be carried out at Sempadi and Sematan for the benefit of the people.
The event today started with a fun ride by members of Persatuan Berbasikal Negeri Sarawak to Lundu Town Square. This was followed by a procession carrying banners with anti-drug slogans from the Lundu Town Square to Dewan Masyarakat Lundu.
A dialogue was later held with the community on the dangers of drugs. — DayakDaily
