KUCHING, Jan 28: Rental exemption for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operating at premises owned by statutory bodies and government-linked companies (GLCs) will be extended for another six months until June this year.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this as one of the seven measures in the latest Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) 8.0 totalling RM285.47 million today.

“The six-month rental waiver will involve a cost totalling RM2.0 million on the Sarawak government,” he said at a special press conference held at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Meanwhile, the 50 per cent discount for housing rental schemes under the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Sarawak will be extended for another six months until June this year under BKSS 8.0.

Abang Johari emphasised that this measure would benefit 3,200 HDC housing rental scheme tenants throughout the State.

“The total cost of the discount is estimated to be more than RM 2.6 million,” he said.

The latest measures are to provide further relief of financial burden on the people post-Covid-19.

Abang Johari pointed out that this assistance demonstrated the Sarawak government’s commitment to the path of socio-economic recovery for the well-being of the people.

“The Sarawak government will always work hard to ensure all the measures announced in the BKSS packages will benefit the targeted groups,” he added.
