KUCHING, Dec 7: The isolated village of Nanga Engkuah in Ulu Katibas, Song, has received a major development boost with the handover of the Ministry of Works’ (MOW) Kampung Angkat Madani or Madani Foster Village (KAM) 2025 project.

According to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, accessing the village is no easy feat, with challenging river routes and logging roads posing constant hurdles.

“The KAM initiative, inspired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, may not be physically large, but its impact on the community is immense,” Nanta wrote on his Facebook today.

Nanga Engkuah was chosen as one of just four KAM project locations in Sarawak, bringing development benefits directly to its residents.

Nanta, who is also the Kapit MP, stressed that such initiatives require close cooperation with the local community, which must embrace development while recognising the hard work of representatives championing rural progress, especially in Katibas constituency.

The particular project, a joint effort between the federal and Sarawak government, has an allocation of RM4 million. Initially budgeted at RM2.5 million, Nanta explained that extra costs were incurred due to the logistical challenges of reaching the remote village.

Looking ahead, Nanta said the continuation of the initiative next year would depend on government approval.

“If it goes ahead, we have already identified areas and needs to be addressed,” he added. — DayakDaily
