KUCHING, Feb 18: The Rembus H2 Hub that will house the Rembus Hydrogen Plant will be Sarawak’s first step towards turning its public transport into a clean industry.
Expected to be commissioned by the second quarter of 2026, the Rembus Hydrogen Plant and refuelling station will support the operations of the three main lines of the Kuching Urban Transport System (KUTS)— Kuching, Samarahan, and Santubong.
This will connect residential, commercial, and industrial areas using hydrogen-powered Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles and feeder buses.
According to a press release, Deputy Minister for Energy and Environmental Sustainability Datuk Dr Hazland Abang Hipni said the Rembus Hydrogen Plant would serve as a catalyst towards Malaysia Net Zero 2050.
“This is just the first of many, and I believe with SEDC Energy (SEDCE) being at the forefront of this journey for Sarawak and Malaysia, our real hydrogen journey has just begun,” said Dr Hazland.
SEDCE is also responsible for building the hydrogen value chain for Sarawak, with the Rembus Hydrogen Plant being one of its key deliverables.
Upon completion, the plant will support the first phase of the KUTS, which consists of 38 ART and 55 hydrogen buses that serve the first line.
