KUCHING, Nov 5: A babysitter who is suspected of abusing a 14-month-old toddler under her care was released from remand on police bail today.
The 23-year-old suspect had been remanded by police for a total of eight days to facilitate investigation. The remand expired today.
The suspect was arrested by police on Oct 27 at 2pm at a rented room in MJC Batu Kawa after the mother of the victim lodged a police report on Oct 25.
According to the mother, she received a message from the suspect on Oct 25 at 8am, stating that her child was crying non-stop and her face was pale.
The mother rushed to the babysitter’s house and found her baby unconscious.
It is understood that the toddler was found in a critical condition as she had not been eating and drinking well for almost three weeks. She was also suffering from seizures and had a lung infection. There were also bruises on her head.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001. — DayakDaily
