Religious school teacher arrested for molesting student

MIRI,July 15: A religious school teacher was apprehended today for allegedly molesting a student.

The arrest was made after a police report was lodged by the 16-year-old victim.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the arrest of the 35-year-old man to assist police investigations.


“The suspect was apprehended today in Bintulu, and he will brought back to Miri for questioning,” he said when contacted today.

A Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team were despatched to Bintulu upon receiving a tip-off of the teacher’s whereabouts.

The alleged incident reportedly occured at a religious school in Batu Niah.

“The student claimed that the incident occurred inside the suspect’s office,” Lim said.

The suspect had allegedly instructed the victim to undress before he fondled the student’s private parts and masturbated.

The student has been studying at the religious school since 2015.

“The victim claimed that the incident was recurrent, and the last time was at the end of June this year,” said Lim.

The case is being investigated under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017. — DayakDaily
