KUCHING, Aug 6: Registration for the Kuching South City Council’s (MBKS) Mayor’s Walk 2026 is now open, with the annual community event set to take place on Aug 16.
Announcing the event at a press conference today, MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said participation is free and members of the public can register through the iPeople mobile application beginning today.
He said every registered participant will receive a complimentary Mayor’s Walk T-shirt while stocks last.
“The Mayor’s Walk has become one of MBKS’ signature community programmes.
“Every year, we see thousands of people from all walks of life—families, children, senior citizens, students and friends—coming together for one purpose: to enjoy a healthy morning while strengthening the spirit of community,” he said during a press conference at MBKS office today.
The walk will flag off at 6am on Sunday (Aug 16).
Wee emphasised that the event is not a competition but an opportunity for the community to spend quality time with family and friends while embracing a healthy lifestyle.
“It is about spending quality time with our loved ones, making new friends, enjoying our beautiful city, and reminding ourselves that staying active is one of the simplest ways to live a healthier and happier life,” he said.
Participants can collect their event T-shirts on Aug 14 from 9am to 4pm and on Aug 15 from 9am to 1pm. They are required to present the registration barcode from the iPeople application for verification during collection.
Wee encouraged the public to register early and invite their family members, neighbours and colleagues to take part, expressing hope that this year’s edition would be the biggest gathering yet.
He also expressed appreciation to Ibraco Berhad as the main sponsor, as well as CHAGEE, Sarawak Energy Berhad and Pepsi for supporting the event.
Wee further thanked the City Joggers’ Club (CJC) for its longstanding partnership with MBKS, noting that the club has provided volunteer marshals since the inaugural Mayor’s Walk to help ensure participants’ safety and the smooth running of the programme.
