Registration now open for Bung Sadung Climbathon on Aug 28

The Bung Sadung Climbathon Trail Challenge will be held on Aug 28, 2022.

KUCHING, June 16: The Bung Sadung Climbathon Trail Challenge which is back after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic will be held on August 28.

The climbathon is open to all who would like to discover one of Bukar Sadung’s heritage nature trails.

The start and finish point of the climbathon will be at Kampung Bunga in Serian Division.


Mount Sadung, some 50km from Kuching city, is considered a heritage site by the local Bukar Bidayuhs from the 26 villages surrounding the mountain.

The mountain is heritage settlement site believed to be the ancestral home for the Bukar Bidayuhs dating back to the Brooke era.

The climbathon is expected to attract some 500 participants and has over RM15,000 worth of prizes to be won.

Organised by the Kampung Bunga development and security committee in collaboration with Serian Resident’s Office, Serian District Office, Serian District Council and the Sport and Recreation Club of Tarat (Kesutar), the event offers six categories.

The various categories and respective registration fees are 10km Men’s Open (RM100), 10km Women’s Open (RM100), 6km Men’s Veteran for 45-years-old and above (RM80), 6km Women’s Veteran for 45-years-old and above (RM80), 6km Boys’ Junior for ages 12 to 17 (RM50), 6km Girls’ Junior for ages 12 to 17 (RM50).

For the 10km Men’s and Women’s Open categories, the winners will take home a cash of RM1,000 and a trophy, while the first runners-up will take home RM700 cash and a trophy. The second runners-up will win a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy. There are six consolation prizes comprising a RM200 cash prize and a trophy each.

For the 6km Men’s and Women’s Veteran categories, the champions will be rewarded with a cash prize of RM700 and a trophy. The first runners-up will win a cash prize of RM500 and a trophy while the second runners-up will bring home RM300 cash and a trophy. Similarly, six consolation prizes comprising RM150 cash and a trophy each are in store for those placing fourth to 10th positions.

For the 6km Boys’ and Girls’ Junior, the champions will receive cash prize of RM500 and a trophy each. The first runners-up will be awarded a RM300 cash prize and a trophy, and the second runners-up will get RM200 cash and a trophy. There will also be six consolidation prizes of RM100 cash and a trophy each.

Finisher’s medals will also be given upon completion of the climb.

The event will also feature an exhibition area and refreshment booths.

The climbathon aims to promote a healthy and active lifestyle as well as to cultivate a proactive attitude and stewardship towards the environment. It also seeks to foster unity among the communities in the area and boost adventure and nature tourism.
