Regatta tragedy: S’wak Enforcement and Security Unit to channel aid to victims’ families

KUCHING, Oct 21: The Sarawak Enforcement and Security Unit (UKPS) will channel aid to the families of the regatta tragedy victims.

According to a news report from TV Sarawak (TVS) yesterday (Oct 20), UKPS director Datuk Dr Chai Khin Khung said initial aid was channelled through the UKPS Welfare Club after the incident was reported.

He said that UKPS is also considering other assistance to the victim’s next of kin based on the Sarawak government service circular in accordance with mechanisms provided by the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF), Social Security Organisation (SESCO), and others.

ā€œAs for additional assistance, I will discuss and consult the Sarawak State Secretary,ā€ he said as quoted by TVS.

Meanwhile, regarding UKPS’ participation in the Sarawak Regatta, Dr Chai said they would deliberate on the matter with the Sarawak State Secretary.

He also did not rule out the possibility of withdrawing the unit from participating. ā€” DayakDaily
