KUCHING, May 28: Xiaohongshu, known in English as RedNote, is set to increase its investment in digital content and resources to support the Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026) campaign, Malaysia’s Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing shared.

In a Facebook post today, Tiong said the popular Chinese social media platform highlighted that Malaysia is currently one of its top focus markets in Southeast Asia.

“They’re planning to ramp up investment in content and resources, especially to support Visit Malaysia 2026 (VM2026). The goal? To attract more young Chinese travellers to Malaysia through engaging content, brand partnerships, and interactive campaigns,” he said, following a recent meeting with RedNote’s cross-border division and Southeast Asia team in Shanghai.

“I also suggested that Xiaohongshu organise familiarisation trips to different states in Malaysia, with support from our tourism boards. This would give their team a first-hand experience of our local culture and highlights, helping them showcase Malaysia’s diverse attractions even better,” he added.

On travellers’ concerns about safety and trust, Tiong noted that RedNote assured it has a solid crisis response setup to manage public sentiment quickly and effectively, which helps in building a positive image.

“I offered the Minister’s Office’s support to coordinate resources and help spread accurate information whenever needed,” Tiong said.

Meanwhile, he noted that data shared in the meeting showed that themed campaigns like “Chinese New Year in Malaysia” and “Charming Malaysia” have hit over 55.94 million views, with an 80 per cent jump in searches and nearly 800 content posts, reflecting growing interest.

Top spots include Semporna and Kota Kinabalu, with water activities, local food, and lion dance performances being especially popular.

“We’re really excited to deepen our partnership and gear up for a successful tourism year, as we aim to elevate Malaysia’s profile on the global stage,” Tiong added. – DayakDaily
