KUCHING, Oct 19: Once the Redline Project is completed, a total of 136.74km of main routes in Sarawak will be upgraded to a four-lane dual carriageway (JKR R5 standard)—making travel safer, more comfortable, and more efficient for the people.
In a Facebook post, Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said he conducted a site visit to the Tudan Section of the project in Miri, Sarawak, involving a stretch of 9.7km with an estimated cost of RM86 million.
“Among the works to be carried out are upgrading and rehabilitating pavement strengthening along the existing 9.7km Federal Road to U5 standards, installation of road markings with reflectorised raised pavement markers (RRPM), drainage systems, road furniture, and other road safety enhancement works,” he said.
“However, the status of the upgrading works at this section is still pending official approval from the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Ministry of Works (KKR),” he said.
The Redline Project is a government initiative to upgrade existing routes at several locations along the Pan Borneo Highway Sarawak, specifically those sections not included in the initial implementation of Pan Borneo Phase 1.
The Redline Project is divided into two main components—the Redline Short Stretch covering 17.1km, involving nine sections located in Lachau, Selangau, Balingian, Kemena, Sebiew, and Tudan; while the Redline Long Stretch covers 119.64 km, involving Durin and Salim, Kemena, Tudan, Batu Kawa, and Padawan. — DayakDaily
