KOTA SAMARAHAN, Nov 25: Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (MPKS) will be organising a Buy Back Campaign which will take place at Pusat Hijau Komuniti, Pasar Bandar Riyal here, this Saturday (Nov 30), from 8am to 12pm.
According to a statement, this initiative marks a significant milestone in MPKS’ efforts to promote sustainable waste management practices and foster environmental consciousness among the local community.
“During the event, members of the public are encouraged to bring a range of recyclable materials, including electrical appliances, used cooking oil, worn-out or unused clothing, and other recyclable items.
“These materials will be exchanged for monetary rewards, offering participants a tangible incentive to adopt sustainable habits,” it read.
The Buy Back Campaign aims to address environmental challenges by promoting proper waste disposal and recycling, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and Goal 13: Climate Action.
The campaign aims to promote recycling, reduce landfill dependency, raise awareness about sustainable consumption, and incentivise recycling through monetary rewards, encouraging residents to take active steps in waste reduction and environmental preservation.
The Buy Back Campaign is made possible through strategic collaborations with Persatuan Buddhist Tzu Chi, DNS Waste Management, and Kim Huang Ent, demonstrating the importance of collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
MPKS chairman Dato Peter Minos expressed his enthusiasm for the campaign, highlighting its potential to transform Kota Samarahan into a more sustainable and environmentally conscious community.
“The Buy Back Campaign represents a vital step in our ongoing efforts to create a greener, cleaner Kota Samarahan. By providing monetary rewards for recyclable items, we hope to inspire more residents to embrace sustainable habits.
“Together, we can make a meaningful impact on our environment and contribute to the global sustainability agenda,” he reportedly said.
