KUCHING, Sept 21: A real estate company manager in Kota Samarahan has lost RM150,000 to an online investment scam.
Sarawak Commissioner of Police Dato Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri said the victim, in his 20s, met with a man identified as ‘Lim Cheng Fan’ through a social media platform in early September, who invited him to join a ‘USDT Currency’ investment, and gave the victim his contact number to facilitate the process.
“The victim later made nine money transactions totaling RM150,000 to three bank accounts belonging to the suspect in the middle of September as an investment.
“The victim only realised that he was scammed after he was given various excuses by the suspect when he asked about the profit from the investment before the suspect failed to be contacted,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal code. — DayakDaily
