KUCHING, Oct 18: The Malaysia Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (Motac) is investigating licensed agents suspected of disseminating false information about the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.

In a news report by TVS, Minister Dato Sri Tiong King Sing stated that all MM2H agents have been instructed to undergo re-registration following reports of agents illegally sub-leasing their licenses and operating without legitimate companies.

“If there are any cases like this, please notify me,” he said in responding to a question from Masjid Tanah MP Datuk Mas Ermieyati in the Parliament on Thursday (Oct 17), who raised concerns over the potential misuse of MM2H licenses.

As of Oct 16, Tiong noted that 229 MM2H agent companies have been officially recognised by the Ministry, and 34 out of 249 MM2H programme applications have been approved.

He emphasised that the programme’s goal is to boost national revenue without compromising security.

“Motac oversees the application process and works with relevant agencies to conduct security screenings before submitting applications to the Immigration Department,” he added.

Tiong also mentioned programme enhancements, such as the requirement for a Certificate of Good Conduct and comprehensive security checks by the Royal Malaysia Police.

At the same time, Motac is considering measures to expedite the application review process, which currently takes 30 days.

“Following discussions with the police and the Immigration Department, we are exploring ways to shorten this duration,” he said. — DayakDaily
