KUCHING, Feb 29: The wife of the late former Sarawak Head of State (TYT) Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi Taib, has posted a touching photo today of her holding Taib’s hand during his final moments, expressing how much she misses him.

“My last few hours with you… the longest few hours of my life. Indeed, Allah knows best. The last 14 years with you were all I have ever prayed for and so much more.

“You have been a bright light not only to my life but also to the lives of our large family and many Sarawakians. I have always admired your dedication and hard work in bringing Sarawak to where it is today.

“Rest in peace, my dearest. Though I miss you terribly, I find solace in knowing that your legacy lives on in the hearts of everyone you touched. Until we meet again,” read the post on her official Instagram account.

Meanwhile, the late Taib’s stepson, Nizar Taib, also recently uploaded a TikTok video of himself visiting his stepfather’s grave at their family cemetery in Demak Jaya here and reminiscing about watching movies with him.

“I’m here in our graveyard at home, my beautiful home. I’m here to see my father for the second time. I just came back from breakfast.

“I woke up a bit early, so I told myself I would go have breakfast and come back and sit here with my father. We used to watch a lot of movies together, like a lot. I’m talking about hundreds of movies. It was one of our hobbies together.

“It was something that we enjoyed doing together, and I wish we could still do it. I swear to God, I’m going to put a TV in this graveyard, and we are going to watch movies together,” he said.

Taib passed away at 4.28am at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur Hospital (CVSKL) in Kuala Lumpur on February 21. He was 87.

On February 22, a state funeral was held for the former Sarawak TYT at the New Sarawak Legislative Complex (DUN). The body of the late Taib was laid to rest at his family cemetery within the compound of the Demak Mosque at Demak Jaya, Jalan Bako at 2.20pm. The late Taib was buried next to his first wife, Datuk Patinggi Puan Sri Laila Taib, who died in 2009. — DayakDaily
