KUCHING, Dec 27: Radio Emergency Drone Squads (REDS) will always be ready to assist when any government agencies in Sarawak need their help, especially during natural disasters.

Santubong MP Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar paid a courtesy call on REDS at Santubong Service Centre, Jalan Kulas on Friday morning.

REDS, led by Captain Zainuddin Tan Sri Hamdan, made up of 150 members from all over Sarawak, has supported government agencies’ events and also assisted in flood incidents.

The organisation is also the only member of Natural Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), under the Deputy Prime Minister’s Office and is planning to promote amateur radio to Sarawak youths.

Amateur radio operators, or radio amateurs, are vital in emergency situations as they provide a life line where they can send help during power blackouts or when there are no cellular lines due to disaster as they can render radio communication using their power supply and equipment. —DayakDaily
