TANJONG MANIS, March 13: Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) has approved a substantial allocation for a resettlement scheme (SPS) for Tanjong Manis residents originating from other places to settle down in the area.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning Land Administration and Environment and RADDA chairman Datu Len Talif Salleh said the initiative will further boost housing development with well-equipped, well-planned, orderly and comfortable facilities.

“Most of the people who work in Tanjung Manis have been residing here since the 90s. They have children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, but they are still staying in ‘rumah pusaka’ (ancestral home).

“Some voiced out that they want to live in Tanjong Manis as their hometown. I understand, so it is already approved in RADDA which we call the village expansion scheme (SPK) and resettlement scheme (SPS).

“It is for any citizen of Tanjong Manis who comes from outside to develop housing in Tanjong Manis. It has already been approved by the committee,” he said during a dinner in conjunction with Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation’s (STIDC) 50th Golden Jubilee celebration at IKS Hall, Tanjong Manis last Saturday (March 11).

Len Talif who is also Kuala Rajang assemblyman further explained that the implementation of SPS Tanjong Manis would be similar to those in Darul Hana, Kuching and Kemuyang, Sibu, which provide residential lots complete with basic facilities such as roads, water supply and electricity to accommodate and meet the needs of low-income people.

He said this effort is in line with the long-term development plan of Tanjong Manis which is being vigorously implemented.

“Our hope is that (for) any of those who are interested in settling down and becoming residents, God willing, we will develop SPS so that we can provide a housing lot complete with the house as well,” he added.
