Rabies-infected areas rise to 47 in the state

KUCHING, Nov 5: One more area, namely Rumah Isa in Nanga Belansai, Sengaih, Julau, was declared a rabies-infected area today.
 
The declaration was made by State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas through a press statement.
 
The statement stated that it is the 47th area in the state to be declared rabies-infected since the area is outside the 10km radius of areas that have been declared as such.
 
Members of the public are reminded not to let their dogs roam freely or bring dogs out from rabies outbreak areas without the written permission of the State Veterinary Authority.
 
Failure to comply is punishable with a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding 3 months or both if convicted under Section 37 (2) & (3) of the Veterinary Public Health Ordinance 1999. — DayakDaily
