KUCHING, Dec 12: In the age of memes where the youth get news and information from these often humorous images or pieces of text, quinquagenarian Wilfred Yap seems to have accepted it quite well.
Yap, who is in his 50’s, said he is ever more receptive to innovative and creative ideas from the youth, especially in N12 Kota Sentosa, the constituency he is standing in under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ticket this election.
“Look at the memes on my Facebook (page). Memes are something for the youth. When I was first introduced to this thing, I was very receptive to this kind of ideas.
“I’m going to promise the youth one thing, that I’m going to be very open to new ideas. The youth, the young people, always have many great ideas, so we should not restrict them,” he said.
On a related topic, Yap talked about the development of e-sports, where he pledges to venture into this field for the youth of Kota Sentosa.
With e-sports already recognised in the Malaysia Games (SUKMA), he said Sarawak youth who are into e-sports lack the platforms to perform and improve themselves for the international or global stage.
“What I intend to do is to provide them with a platform. I will organise small competitions for the youth.
“And through these competitions, they can sharpen up their skills, and then they can move on to a bigger stage. So that’s something I’m interested in,” he said.
Yap, also Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa branch chairman, said he too welcomes any youth to approach him either for assistance or advice, especially young entrepreneurs.
With his legal profession, he said he could assist in setting up a company, a partnership or any related matters.
“I’m always ready to assist the young people,” he added. — DayakDaily
