Quick-thinking doctor extinguishes fire at Saratok hospital

SARATOK, Jan 2: A fire involving an exhaust fan in the paediatric ward at Saratok Hospital was swiftly extinguished by a brave doctor, preventing potential harm to patients and staff.

Dr Muhammad Zulhusni Muhammad Damanhuri, 32, acted promptly to douse the flames using a dry powder fire extinguisher before firefighters from BBP Saratok arrived.

The incident occurred at the children’s ward 7.22 am today. A team of seven firefighters, led by PBK II Freddy Ak John, reached the hospital within five minutes. Upon arrival, they found the fire had been successfully managed.

Firefighters conducted inspections to confirm the fire was completely extinguished and the area was safe. No further action was required, and the team installed safety barriers before leaving at 8.02am.

At the time of the incident, three nurses, two children, and two guardians were in the ward. Thanks to Dr Zulhusni’s swift action, no injuries or significant damage were reported.
