KUCHING, Feb 5: Borneonisation of the federal civil service in Sabah and Sarawak is back in focus, with Putrajaya stepping up efforts to place more local officers in key government posts under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) framework.

The push was reinforced through the MA63 Implementation Action Council (MTPMA63) Working Committee Meeting on Public Service Matters for both States, which centred on strategies to strengthen the effectiveness, professionalism and integrity of the civil service in Sabah and Sarawak.

According to a report by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), the meeting, the first for 2026, was chaired by Public Service director-general Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

“Among the key issues discussed were the Borneonisation of the federal civil service and the need for additional public service posts under Article 112 of the Federal Constitution, matters which fall under the jurisdiction of the Public Service Department (JPA).

“Both initiatives aim to ensure more Sabahans and Sarawakians serve in their home States, while enhancing administrative capacity and improving the efficiency of public service delivery,” UKAS reported.

Sabah’s delegation was led by Sabah Public Service director Datuk Zainudin Aman, while Sarawak was represented by Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki.

Also present were Sarawak Attorney General Dato Sri Saferi Ali, Sabah Public Service Department deputy director (Management) Aidah Awang, and Sabah deputy attorney general Suzumaidah Hussain. — DayakDaily
