Pusa set to be nipah palm sugar hub with abundant gula apong products

KUCHING, Feb 18: Pusa has the most active nipah palm sugar (gula apong) entrepreneurs in the State with 197.

According to a news report from Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) today, based on the statistic from Ministry of International Trade and Industry, Industrial Terminal and Entrepreneur Development (Mintred) and Craun Research Sdn Bhd (Craun), Sarawak currently has a total of 264 active nipah palm sugar entrepreneurs in six locations throughout the State.

Apart from Pusa, Kabong also have the second highest number of active nipah palm sugar entrepreneurs with eight, while other entrepreneurs are in Asajaya, Debak, Spaoh, Kabong and Lawas.


In Kabong, the Nipah Entrepreneur Community Project will beimplemented with an estimated cost of RM1,105,000, involving several agencies.

Among the them are Mintred, which has agreed to provide machinery equipment worth RM200,000 and also Craun, who has identified 22 hectares of land in Kabong for the development of Nipah Entrepreneur Community project.

Such efforts is expected to open up new employment opportunities for the local community.

Meanwhile, Kabong assemblyman Mohd Chee Kadir on Thursday (Feb 17) attended the Nipah Industrial Development meeting held in Wisma Sumber Alam.

The purpose of the meeting was to explain the direction of the nipah industry as well as to further strengthen the economic and entrepreneurial activities of the farming community consisting of farmers, breeders and fishermen by diversifying their sources of income. — DayakDaily
