Purr-fect parade of 240 felines at Kuching International Cat Festival

KUCHING, Sept 26: More than 240 cats of different breeds from Malaysia, Thailand, the Philippines, China, Vietnam and Indonesia will take centre stage at the Kuching International Cat Festival (KICF) happening today until Sept 28.

Officiated by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman today, the festival serves to showcase Kuching as a unique Southeast Asian destination and to boost the local economy by supporting traders, pet industry players, and cultural artists.

The event also seeks to instil greater public awareness of animal care and welfare, encouraging love and compassion towards animals.

A majestic long-haired cat steals the spotlight at the Kuching International Cat Festival 2025.

The three-day festival will take place at Kuching Waterfront, running daily from morning until night.

Other programmes lined up include the My Cat Expo, Cat Grooming Demonstration, Cat Dance Competition, Cat Fashion Show, and busker performances to keep visitors entertained.

Another highlight is the Cat Parade, set for Sept 27 at 7pm, featuring 76 cats in a colourful evening march.

Kuching residents, Malaysians and international guests are all welcome by DBKU to make the three-day celebration even more vibrant.

Also present were the World Cat Federation president, Anneliese Hackmann, and Putra Cat Boarding and Service founder, Sufian Mohat.
