KUCHING, April 18: The veranda of Kampung Segu Bunuk longhouse will be repaired in time for the coming Gawai Dayak celebration.
This will be possible following the commitment from Puncak Borneo MP Datuk Willie Mongin, who said he would give additional funds to complete the repair works.
He said he had previously allocated RM50,000 to repair the veranda using belian poles and planks, but the amount was insufficient.
“With Gawai coming soon, I will give extra funds to complete the dilapidated veranda, which is about 15 feet, so that it will be complete in time for the celebration,” Willie told reporters during a recent visit to the longhouse after he declared open the new office for Persatuan Segu Bunuk Penrissen (PSBP).
Willie, who is Deputy Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodity, did not disclose the amount for the additional allocation but gave his assurance that the fund will be given as soon as possible.
Earlier, Willie also pledged RM5,000 to PSBP to carry out their activities.
He said it was important for the association to function well in preserving the culture and tradition of the community while not neglecting the importance of education.
“The association must also work with the village development and security committee (JKKK) to develop the village.
He also urged the association to work with other Bidayuh associations to better the Bidayuh community at large. — DayakDaily
