Pulau Sari missing anglers: Body found, SAR continues for remaining victims

LAWAS, Sept 10: A fishing trip among three friends who were reported missing yesterday near Pulau Sari, turned tragic when one of the victim has been found dead by the search and rescue (SAR) team this morning.

The body of Yeu Chee Tiong, 30, from Taman NTK at Jalan Punang, was found at the vicinity of Sungai Labik-Labik, trapped in between rocks at 8.35am.


It was earlier reported that Yeu, together with his friends Faruk Arina Ahmad Sabri, 29, and Mohd Amirul Bakar, 26, had embarked on a fishing trip to Pulau Sari yesterday morning.

They were reported missing by another friend, who owns the boat, after the latter failed to reach one of the victims despite many attempts to call him.

SAR team recovered Yeu’s body.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre (PGO), in a statement, said they received the distressed call from Lawas police station at 8.10pm.

A search and rescue (SAR) operation for the trio was immediately mounted by Bomba, Civil Defence Force, police and local villagers.

During their search, villagers from Kg Punang found two fish containers, believed to be the trio’s, floating near Pulau Sari.

As at press time, SAR team have yet to find the remaining victims. — DayakDaily
