Public invited to join Lantern of Unity walk at MBKS park with 500 lanterns to be given out

KUCHING, Sept 8: The public are invited to join the Lantern of Unity gathering and walk to be held at Kuching South City Council (MBKS) park (near the theatre stage) tomorrow (Sept 9) starting at 7pm where some 500 lanterns will be distributed to participants.

The event is jointly organised by Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) Central Women Section and Southern Zone Women Section to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, which is the second most important festival for the Chinese community.

According to SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan, in a media release today, the objective of the event is to “foster unity among Sarawak’s diverse community through the traditional activity of carrying lanterns while enjoying a walk and appreciating the beautiful glow of the moon”.

Deputy Premier Dato Sri Dr Sim Kui Hian and MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng are expected to lead the walk.

In addition, the event also offers prizes of RM500 for the largest team to participate in the procession as well as RM150, RM100 and RM50 for participants with the best costume.

The Lantern of Unity gathering and walk is the second to be held after the first one on Sept 4 at Friendship Park. — DayakDaily
