Public catch snatch thief in Miri

The snatch theft suspect who was nabbed by members of the public.

MIRI, August 14: A man who has previous records for drug and theft offences was caught by members of the public when he tried to snatch a woman’s sling bag here today.

The incident took placed at Jalan Boulevelard 3C at about 10am, said Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah.


“Members of the public surrendered the 29-year-old suspect, a local, to the police for further action,” he said.

During the ensuing struggle with the suspect, the 22-year-old victim was hurt on her left leg and arms.

Before the incident, the victim was on her way to work. The suspect had suddenly appeared from behind and grabbed her sling bag. The scene attracted the attention of passers-by, who immediately came to her aid.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery. — DayakDaily
