KUCHING, Oct 3: Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, has appealed to the public and anyone who may know the whereabouts of one Lai Fook Chun to come forward urgently.

The appeal was made today in connection to a house registered under Lai’s name, specifically a two-storey terrace house located at No 935, Lot 1405, Lorong Bayor Bukit 2 in Tabuan Jaya.

On Sept 30, a fire broke out from the house, causing some 80 per cent damage while the adjacent houses on both sides had five per cent damage each.

The State Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) received the emergency call at 9.37am before dispatching 16 firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang stations to the scene.

There were no reported injuries to any of the occupants in houses involved.

Located opposite BSN bank, the house has been occupied by one male occupant who is not the owner.

According to records, Wee said this is the third fire incident involving house number 935.

“The previous two fire incidents were not that serious and neighbours managed to put the fire out before it became uncontrollable.

“This time, the damage is bad, causing neighbours to be very concerned over the repeated fires,” Wee said at a press conference today.

He  added that the man who was living there was not of sound mind, and could not provide any reliable information.

Based on information obtained by Bomba, Wee said the house was filled with tires and rubbish inside.

“I was approached by other house owners over this matter. They have been trying to locate the house owner for quite some time, but failed. Hence, they seek our advice and help on how to settle this problem.

“From our council’s system and search results, the information we have is the house is owned by a man by the name of Lai Fook Chun with the same address. There is a telephone number but it was not contactable,” Wee said after a meeting with the neighbours at MBKS yesterday.

Meanwhile, he also thanked firefighters for the prompt action and is hopeful that the team will speed up their probe and final report to ease other affected house owner’s insurance claims. — DayakDaily
