BAU, Dec 26: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) members have the right to join any political party should they disband later, says Dato Henry Harry Jinep.

The Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) deputy president said the members could join any party as long as they do not go against the anti-party hopping law.

“If the party-less individuals want to join any component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), you do not need the ‘green light’. Anybody can join any party,” he told reporters during a Christmas open house at Bung Konis here today.

Harry further said PDP and PSB have a special joint committee overseeing their collaboration on the way forward for both parties, hinting that the committee is looking at ways to recruit the members en bloc.

“We have no problem on taking in anybody who wants to join the party. No problem. We just need the party’s supreme council to approve the application.

“Under our party’s constitution, the provision gives power to the supreme council. Thus, we do not need to call for annual general meeting (AGM) because the power to approve the application of new members lies with the supreme council,” he explained.

PDP currently has about 100,000 members. If the ‘en bloc’ absorption happens, the numbers are expected to double.

“Isn’t this move good for Sarawak instead of fighting one another? If the 80,000 members remain in the Opposition, I don’t think they would like it so why don’t they help and join us to continue developing Sarawak?

“Do not just think about election. That is a different story. We should focus on a harmonious Sarawak so that the Premier can focus on the development of the State,” he elaborated.
